Well, had enough of those bumper supports breaking about once a year and being expensive to replace SO did what I hope is a permanent fix.
I cut off the tabs that hold them up in the quarter panels so that they would be easy to take off if I had to (and that made the rest of the job easier too). I then drilled two holes to keep the supports upward and snug with the quarter panels (play around with drilling the plastic, and then drilling the metal about a millimeter too high). Orignally thought of using self tapping stainless screws but ended up with M5 button head and nuts on the back as this was a bit nicer, robust and access at the back was not too bad. Will report long term on how it goes as have not re-fitted the bumper yet :driving:

And the final result. (I used a dremel to clear ridges and make a flat surface for the screw's heads)
