Engine squeal and fluctuating revs - 3.0Si

Morning all

My car has decided to develop a horrible loud squeal noise and fluctuating revs as I was heading into the hospital whilst on call early this morning (typical it happens at the least convenient time!)

What do people think this is? Would it be the water pump? It’s a E85 3.0Si with 108k miles. Last serviced about 7k miles ago.

Needs proper examination but I’ve heard of collapsed oil filters causing this sort of noise & also blocked ccv systems.

Thanks Rob. That’s exactly what it was. Just whipped it out and changed it in the car park (with a few funny looks!) and sounds lovely again.

I was worried it was something more troublesome what with the noise

Oh, that is horrible, pleased you got this sorted. To confim then - this was a collapsed oil filter? Had no idea this could happen or cause this noise. Good to know

Yup, collapsed oil filter. Horrible noise isn’t it!
