Engine noise

I’m still on the lookout for an e86.
I had a look at one very recently that appeared well looked after but I was concerned by a noticeably louder tappet noise and upon opening the oil filler cap some other louder noises.
I haven’t been aware of this on the couple of others I’ve seen.
Any ideas, could it be a simple fix I wonder?
I do have a sound clip which I could add.

OK, maybe not all but most (n52 engines) have a bit of lifter noise on cold start and the longer it's been left sat the more chance you'll be hearing it, cars that are regularly well used will likely be quieter.

As above its normal on the N52, some are louder than others and it seems that a good level of clean oil makes them a bit less noisy but not by much. Dont worry about it, mine makes as much noise now @101k as it did @60k and its been absolutely bulletproof

Well thanks for the reassurance that all might be well.
Id like to post a sound clip from my iPhone but I think the file size is too big.
Will try with Vimeo..

My Z4s have only ever been "weekend" cars and my 2nd one often suffered from a ticking noise on the top end, but it disappeared after a decent drive.

My current 3 Series has the same N52 engine, and during lockdown often did less than 10 miles a week, so I got that ticking noise every time I used it. But again after a decent drive the noise goes away.

Everything I've read about that issue suggests it's a common problem but does no actual damage and my experience has been the same.

It's perfectly fine as stated in previous posts.

I know this as its my car 🤭 and I double checked with my BMW specialist mechanic this morning to be 100% sure!

Hopefully this link works for the video of the various noises.

The hollow popping noise is just the way the sound from the bangs is resonating inside the now unsealed rocker cover, if it still did that with the cap sealed... then you walk
