Engine Louder and Overrun Sound

Hi all,

An interesting one with my car over the last few days that i'm wondering if anyone has any advice on.

I turned my car on yesterday and it was noticeably louder, not in a bad way, felt a bit more aggressive and 'bitey' than usual but generally sounded smooth despite the change. When i then drove the car, just after using the throttle i get a sort of quiet overrun sound, much like you get in much sportier cars. However, this happens every time i release the throttle so there's definitely something odd going on.

Whilst it sounds quite nice i've owned the car for approx 4 years and i know this is not normal for this car. I have driven it on a few journeys since (one longer and another one short) with the same symptoms with no discernible reduction or increase in them. There doesn't seem to be any decrease in power or any oddities with the rev meter (seems as stable as ever). It seems to be coming from the engine direction from being sat in the cabin and when at a standstill and revving, the car does seem louder from the outside but i can't make out the weird overrun sound, hence very hard to capture to explain what i'm on about!

All i can think about at the moment is that there could be a perished hose or cracked plastic part somewhere on the air inlet or exhaust outlet which means more noise is getting out of the engine somewhere, and perhaps the burble is an air flow sound related to air escape through this crack?

Any ideas?

Check the clamps underneath that connect the manifold to the exhaust system, the fasteners tend to rot away & cause leaks.
