engine diagnostic test

Engine light on...had it checked out and fault showing as emissions related....
Garage says possibly sensor after cat converter or cat itself.....
Anyone had this... and is it likely to be cat

They should be able to tell if the sensor is out of range or not. If they can't confirm it's the sensor or cat then I'd be asking for my money back!
Get a cable yourself and use INPA - at £30 it's cheaper than paying for diag.

I think the post cat sensors are quite unlikely to fail so maybe the cat.

Thanks for that mate. It was a local tyre and exhaust centre that checked it. They done it for free, but I suspect maybe it's not a great diagnostic machine as outcome does seem sketchy.
Can you advise me what inpa is, apologies for my ignorance , and where I can get one. Will it allow me to clear the fault? The garage I went to wouldn't clear it when I asked :(

Ah fair enough, if they have just a code reader then you don't get much detail.
INPA is software that will show you every value from every sensor on the car, read out you codes in detail and allow you to reset them. I got my cable from BM Cables and it came with INPA plus other tools like SSS which will allow you to enable 'dealer' options (e.g. 3 indicator flash on post-facelift).

Fault removed today. By local garage friend. He suggested adding a bottle of Forte cleaning solution ( exact ones name I've now forgotton) . However, it's been added to petrol tank along with a dam good thrash through all gears on a nice set of twisted. ...so we'll see how that goes :)
