Hi
If I was to change my 2l engine to say a 2.8 6pot would I have to change the gear box ?

Cheers

Easy answer, don't even bother, change the car instead. 100%.

+1 You'll have to change the engine, likely the gearbox, possibly the diff, and brakes.. shall I go on?

Would be better to have the matching gearbox AND diff for gearing and ratios. That would be the easy part, then the hard part, matching the ECU if it's compatible with your wiring (since no Z4 was available with a 2.8 ) and preferably brakes and suspension, possibly instrument swap, maybe exhaust. Probably need a whole donor car?. Then you will have problems with insurance and possibly a car that you couldn't sell because of being modified. Aw who am i kidding, don't do it, cheaper and easier in the long run to just buy a 3.0l.

Not worth changing it into another existing car. Now if you were thinking of a V8 that would be another matter entirely!

asking that question will mean its not worth it. the only people who change engines hang around with the modified car scene and therefore have connections and knowledge to get it done. its a big job and will be cheaper just buying a car with a bigger engine. as for the question, if it did fit there is a good chance something will fail at some point due to the extra torque.

also agree with 'perana'

BTW my mate just changed out his skyline and took 4 guys 8 hours in a specialist garage to do the change ( old engine exploded ending with a bucket full metal on the road)

thanks folks for the comments

i think i will look at something else then.

cheers

With the availability of the 3.0si or ///M I agree with everyone else. Only time you need to think engine change / supercharger si when you're already got the biggest / most powerful engine available for the car.
