Hi everyone

My EWL came on the other day during a long journey down the M5. I took it to a garage and they provided me with the following information from the diagnostics:

29F4 CATALYTIC CONVERTER CONVERSION

FAULT CURRENTLY NOT PRESENT

FAULT WOULD CAUSE A WARNING LAMP (MIL) TO LIGHT UP

SAE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE P0420

They turned off the lamp and all was fine for 2 weeks until today when it came back on. They said it may come back up if there is a fault. Wondering if this would actually be the cat or an O2 sensor? The car has a BMW warranty on it so should be covered whatever it is (hopefully). Its a 2006 2.0i with 49k on the clock. Funny enough its due for its oil service just next week!

It is more likely a problem with the down stream O2 sensor than the cat, but it could be a number of other things too. Further investigation is needed. It may not even be the same trouble code. There's no problem waiting until the oil service to have someone look at it.
