Emmission warning light

Hi,
Had a single misfire the other morning and then the car ran "flat" until I got to work. Left it parked up all day and when I started it in the evening it was absolutely fine. The emissions warning light came on the next day but the car was running great.
Being a a bit worried I've driven like a vicar until I had a chance to get on the forum today and discover it's not a life threatening illness!!
I've taken it out, never letting it idle once (as recommended in one of the posts), filled it with petrol and a little STP I had left from another motor. Taken it for a good old italian tune up, red lined it 4 or 5 times and got the exhaust etc super hot.
Hey presto light out, running great!
Maybe the morning commute just clogs it up, either that or had a bad batch of petrol?
Can the light just go out like this if the sensors come back into range?
Just worth a try before spending money.....?
 
If your regular commute doesn't allow it to get fully hot, problems will eventually occur unless it gets a good run once in a while. It's normal for the emission light to go out if the original issue is not detected for several drive cycles.

No worries, your car is just telling you to drive it harder/longer! :thumbsup:

Just like my old racing minis in the 80's then!
The commute is about 30 minutes but a lot of it is city stop/start with only one section of decent raod and that had 4 fixed and one mobile camera.
I'll try a different route once a week and open it up.
Think that'll be enough?
 
Couldn't say for sure, could be borderline unless the different route takes a while longer. You could also drive only in low gear for a while once a week once the engine is fully warmed, so that you're getting over 4500-5000 rpm for a total of, oh say 10-15 minutes total? Again, can't be sure, but it's a starting point. If you get the light again, I guess it wants more!

Actually, I think your car is saying it wants to go out and play on weekends! :wink:
