My Emission light stayed on the other day and i lost a little acceleration/power. The light went away once the car was turned off and back on again. Now the light has stayed on but the power is only affected now and again. I dont want to spend big ££££'s as im actually trading th car in either next week or the week after. Is there any way i can turn the light off or a quick cheap fix for this problem?

Eml lights can be triggered by many many things.

So you cant fix what you dont know and in this case you need a diagnostics plugged in.

Either obd scanner or diagnostics software on laptop to identify the error codes.

Try putting some Shell V Power fuel in (the high octane stuff), this may sound strange, but I only had my car for three weeks and filled up twice with supermarket unleaded. The EML light came on (dreading an expensive repair bill), but i put Shell V power in and the light went off when driving out of the petrol station!

It is now fine and has not come on since!
 
If you have a 2.0L this is a common problem usually associated with the O2 sensors pre/post CAT. Just buy a cheap (£30) scanner off EBay, read the fault, look it up and note it, then if it's not serious, cancel it to clear the light.
