Elise as a weekend toy

What model would you go for? Up to £15k

Starting to read up on them as I know very little about them.

Rover or Toyota? 111S or 111R (if in budget)

Looking at the 0-60 times the 135bhp model isn't any quicker 0-60 than my coupe but I guess they aren't about outright speed.
 
K series power for me.

Lighter, engine has more low down pull and mid range, sounds better IMO.

It is as the car was intended. Yeah, you might have to have a head gasket done but there are many mods to resolve such issues and it is an easy engine to work on yourself if you feel so inclined.

They are not about outright speed at all, it's all about the raw feeling and the unbelievable handling.
 
I'd just buy the best car you can regardless of series or engine. I looked at a few S1s recently and I could foresee some heavy engine work with a few of them and a lot of them the bodywork was very shabby. Fibreglass doesn't age well. It was rather depressing considering the prices some of them were asking.
 
I had a toyota engined S model elise before i got my zed, reliable & great fun to drive but harder to live with than the bmw-getting in/out is an art and can be wearing if using it for short trips to the shops etc.
Glad ive ticked the box but i wont have another, mrs smartbear hated it as well (noisy,small luggage compartment,fragile bodywork,blistering paintwork etc)
The zed gets much more use because its not so hard edged.
