Electrical issue dash lights and idle

A small red light comes on when the battery is not being charged, I would suggest you check all the cables are tight especially the earth leads, the Z4 must have a fully charged battery at all times. Perhaps get a Z4-specific code reader to see what else is going on.

code reader gives no issues despite there being loads of lights on. Neither my code reader or the garage. I briefly had the battery light come on. But I know the battery isn't charging properly because it's often almost flat. Also tried a new battery and fully charged it. And it was almost dead after driving that day. Any cables in particular you mean? I'm fairly new at electrics. Battery cables are tight though.

If you pull back the carpet to the right of the battery negative cable you will see a bolt into the body which acts as the ground. Not unknown for it to rust, especially with a damp boot.

So just an update.
I pulled out the alternator and replaced the voltage regulator with a new valeo one as it came with.

This seems to have solved every single electrical issue it had and by extension the loss of power and accelerator lock out issues and wildly oscillating revs at idle.

So one thing to keep in mind for anyone having similar problems.
