Electric Window fault

I've got a problem with the electric windows on my E86 coupe. When using the switches on the drivers side, the windows go down, but will not go up.

If I use the switches on the passenger door, I can get the passenger side window to operate in both directions.

I took the car to my local mechanic who – after much fiddling – was able to get driver's side window to close using an ODB connection. However, the driver's window doesn't drop when the door is opened as it is supposed to.

The mechanic thought it was probably the switch module that was at fault. He removed this to see if he could fix it, but wasn't able to see anything that was obviously at fault.

What does the wisdom of the forum think?
  • Does it sound like the switches are the issue?
  • Any suggestions how to check this for sure before I start hunting for a replacement switch module?

Switch unit. Take it apart and clean all the connections.
I know the mechanic said he couldn’t see anything wrong, but did he actually clean all the connectors. They don’t necessarily look like they have corrosion on them.

Or fit a replacement switch assembly

Where are you? Maybe someone close by who could temporarily swap their switch in to prove the fault.

If it’s been messed with then you may also need to do a reset on that window to get the drop on opening

Took mine apart, cleaned it up, did the job. Coffee from above spilled into it from the cup holder
