Electric Window Broken

Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I have posted, but you have always been pretty good with helping any issues I have, so here goes.

When trying to lower the driver window, I heard a bang, the window stopped going down and I just heard a metal grinding noise.

I eventually managed to get the part opened window back up, and it wont move now, I just hear this grinding when I press the button.

Something has obviously gone wrong in the door. Can anyone point me in the direction of what parts I am likely to need and also how easy it is to remove the door card.

Sounds like your window regulator has gone, common problem if you do a quick search and a relatively easy fix I think

Please post a pic and/or better yet, a DIY video would be a life saver. From what I've read/seen, it was kind of complicated. At least for a newb like me.
 
Did mine about a month ago. It's not a tough job really, just door card off, undo five bolts (4 normal and one T45 hex) and the regulator will be free from the door/glass and can be removed.

It's a bit fiddly because you need to do a bit of preparation first, including lowering the window so it sits 120mm above the door frame so that you have access to the T45 bolt through a little "window" - this is the bolt that holds the window to the regulator. To see it, you have to remove the door card, and peel back the membrane, then disconnect the battery, wait 15 minutes and get working.

I would advise marking the window in multiple places when it is in the up position using tape (I.e. Before you start). The window has a lot of adjustment and if it is not aligned you get wind noise and leaks. The bolt at the bottom of the door controls the in/out position and the T45 mentioned does the fore/aft of the glass. Mark everything before you start.

To be certain, these is a mark on the door rubber (on the frame) when the door is shut that indicates where the glass should sit. It's a triangle shape and you can refer to the other side as a reference if need be.

Went bang as i was coming of the ferry in Dover after a 3000 mile euro trip :driving: so i count my self lucky :D

Im going to call around a few local dealers in the morning but was wondering if anyone had fitted one from ECPs as i dont think the dealers will keep any in stock :(
