Electric supercars...will this be your next purchase?

Just browsing for some of the newer tech out there to replace our gas-guzzling babies. So I thought I get some forum chatter going. Here are 3 supercars that run on batteries. Also do 0-60 mph in 4.0 s or less! Is this what is in store for us? If so, when?!?!

gotta love the cobra 427!!!

Actually , I was going to convert the Z into electric when the time came. I Know there are companies that retrofit electric motors and bateries into cars I ust dont know if it's ever been done with a Z.

The Tesla looks very cool and I'd drive one, though the silence really does seem to take away some of the driving pleasure...anyone who has raced in in Project Gotham against a Ferrari will know what I mean - quick but just not the same.

:)

The batteries last 100k and will cost $30k to replace too, so resale will be affected as useful life decreases. As discussed in another thread, petrol is easily pushing $10 a gallon at the moment and I cannot see me switching before it touches $20. A Tesla Roadster weighs in at $100,000, the same price as a new M3 with options. So not yet, but I can honestly see the third or maybe even second generation Tesla being a seriously viable alternative. Don't ignore Hydrogen though; BMWs Hydrogen 7 suggests to me in ten eyars, Hydrogen poweed 3s, 5s and Zs may be available.

There is something about the growl of a gas engine that all supercars must have.
Take that away and it loses its appeal for me.

Some day gasoline engines you will only see in museums and I suspect I won't live to see that...

I actually just read that BMW has just unveiled an all electric vehicle (prototype) and they are thinking about putting it into production. They are guessing it would be in production in about 2012. I read it in Car and Driver magazine I think...

Completely agree!! But I can't help thinking that one day, we'll be driving in the car with our grand kids and they'll wonder how we ever drove in cars that made all the aweful noise!!!!!

If having the "noise" is so important why not attach a sound generator which can mimic any car sound ( as seen on TV) and that way you can have the cake and eat it too.

LOL hes quite believable, especially the Civic...

Bet he can't do an AMV8 though...they seem to be everywhere at the moment and the noise - jaysus. One blipped down from 5th to 3rd and blew past someone on the opposite carriageway to me today. At WOT that car is a cross between a WW2 Spitfire and Jesus himself, shouting. Amazing is the only word...electric cars will never do that

He needs to redo this with a green screen outside his window. Then just let people have fun with it on the internet!
