Electric Mirrors, one side works, one side doesn't

Hi,

Following on from my previous thread regarding my new car, there's a few small niggles / issues that I've since found.

One of which is that the drivers side wing mirror adjusts up down and sideways as it should do, but the passenger side wing mirror does not adjust at all.

Now here's the strange thing... the drivers side wing mirror doesn't heat up, but the passengers side wing mirror does heat up...

I've had a search and I can't find any issues similar to this, does anyone have any advice or an idea as to what could be the problem?

Thanks

I think the heating element in your mirrors is fed separately to the adjuster switch. So either the element has burned out or you have a break in the wire. I had a similar problem with my mirrors.
Checked the fuses and all was ok. Turned out to be the switch in the door. Took the switch unit out and sprayed it with contact cleaner. Put it back but you really had to press it hard to get the mirrors to operate. Decided to get a second hand replacement (£30) and all is now well.
You can get something from eBay that you apply to the inside of TV remote controls to make the buttons work again but it was a bit expensive so I opted for a used but working switch.

Thank for your reply mate. I will look into this then, is it fairly straight forward to replace and connect the new switch?

Also regarding heating element, how can i check this and what should I be looking for? is it just a matter of taking the mirror off?

If you take the mirror lens out and disconnect the connector from the glass, put a test light on it. If the test light works it's the element that's gone. Alternatively try the working mirror glass on the opposite side to see if it heats up. If it doesn't it might be a break in the wire. You might have to look at You tube for guidance getting the mirror glass out. (I haven't done it )
Removal of the door switch assembly is just a matter of prizing it gently out of the door and taking the connectors off. You can dismantle it and try cleaning it or just purchase a replacement. (I got a used one from SYNETIQ Winsford or Doncaster £30. Just quote the part number off the old switch)
New switches are not cheap. Over £100.
