eibachs and m wheels on a 3.0

Hi guys, well my rear springs are both shot. This being the second time they have cracked :(

Im over due getting an mot and its failed because of this and so i have the dilema most of us do...do i buy a couple of oem springs or get an eibach kit. Going lower being a bit of a gamble :o

The problem is, i dont know if any of you have the m wheels (wrong offset and nice and sticky-outy) on a 3.0 with the eibachs as well and can still drive without rubbing. I have the 35 lower profile tyres at the moment so have a little more clearance than if i had the standard contis that come on the m wheels.

Anyone out there have the same setup??

I had rubbing issue when I the conti's on, which are by my calculations 11.25mm thicker:

(225x0.40)-(225x0.35)=11.25

so if you're dropping by another 15mm then I reckon you'll have issues.

Not sure how, but IIRC chris had M wheels with eibach springs and he said it was fine?

Yep, he did, but sold up for an M3, http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=6267

My setup actually seems to be lower than Eibachs...

Taken from: Aero kit + new springs = lots of pics

I am thinking about sending these back, for being too low and replacing them with Eibachs, to give it a little lift. I opted not to go for Eibachs as they were listed as being too low

That said, so far I haven't had any issues but I haven't tracked it yet.

Do you know what your actual drop is PS? What springs are they?
Im thinking im low enough already, the M wheel offset really gives an illusion the cars low anyway. Im guessing it would probably be fine apart from hard cornering or the odd time but getting into my driveway is close enough as it is. Just obviously going through the options.

edit:just read your thread. -20 mil after standard ride height is only 5 mil lower than 3.0 m suspension height. (i think) so another 10 mil lower really would be lower. Hmmmm

The springs were meant to be -20mm, but with my car side by side with JonnyFive's (on Eibachs) mine is lower.

I think the thing that saves me is the camber... I need to get a full alignment done but reluctant to pay £100 to then change the springs and get it done again. Need to make a decision!

Jonny five has a 3.0 with eibachs then? What wheels and tyres does he have do you know?

Yours does look a touch too low really. I dont think i would be able to manage being that low :(

Not sure of the wheels, but std tyres. Less of and offset than the Ms. Mine's not that much lower... as you said, the offset of the M wheels make it look lower than it is.

Dreamer, just get OEM ones... you know what London roads are like.

EDIT: IIRC there's a tricky/dodgy bit to your driveway also?

Peddy im pretty much that way of thinking.

The garage yesterday said oem are 62 +vat each. I just rang BMW and they quoted 78 + vat each. Whats everyone else paid for springs? Are the springs on ebay any good?

With the M wheels sticking out more will this cause the bushings to wear at a quicker rate? I say this as I have a compact, with some wider star spoke 71's were on it bushings/ball joints would fail almost yearly, putting the standard 15" steel rims back on which are no where near as wide and 3 years on no play at all.

Not ///M wheels, but I'm running standard offset OEM 18" alloys with the normal tyre sizes on a 3.0i and Eibachs: zero rubbing issues.

Eibachs are ~£165 for a full set here: http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/detprod.asp?productcode=E10-20-010-01-22&PID=1081224 - sure they used to be cheaper than that though!

Cheers Ally.

Now as i see it the M wheels are only the wrong off set at the rear because the rear axle is longer on the 3.0.
So the front wheels stick out the same as regular wheels. Right? They dont look like they stick out anymore to me but then i cant compare.

And people with any rubbing issues usually report problems at the front when turning. So...

Does this mean im only concerned with the hieight of the rear. Could i eibach the rear and leave the front standard?

I paid around £150 delivered for twp rear ones last year. got mine from Joe @ Sopers.

Minus tax that works out to be around £64 (75/1.175), so try Joe.
