Economy on a 3.0

To prove a point to her indoors I've been messing about with my driving style the past few weeks to see just how much it effects the economy of the Z4. My best economy I have managed is 51.3 on the computer doing 65 behind a van on the M42 and been as carefull as possible, and I managed 347 miles on a full tank of super unleaded. I have also found that I get more MPG if I drive with the sports button on? Just thought I'd see if anyone else has tried this and what results they managed. Oh my worst was 4mpg and that was doing the rev limiter in second.

What's your average over a full tank, or a full month?

I drive averagely fast (weekend hooning toy) and get just under 32 from a 3.4 litre. Currently showing 31.7 on both 1 & 2 as the computer lost its memory during last service work when everything was recoded and updated

The best I've seen on a single trip was 37 but that was as boring as anything

My average over the last 4,000 miles is just under 31mpg (calculated, not according to computer although I have to say that the computer is bang on). I do a lot of motorway miles and reckon on 340 miles to a tank with no issues, at my last fill up I had 363 miles showing and there was still 5 litres left in the tank.

I don't care much for fuel economy, but you have a good point - the sport button allows to dose the throttle input more precisely - hence the lower consumption.

Since I got my car in Feb (3.0 Auto) I have not reset the Consump 2 counter. It sits at 25mpg all the time never rising or falling. Its quite feasible this is the mpg over the car over the entire lifetime of the current battery and being a 2007 car its also possible thats from new. 34k miles at 25mpg (say £1.29 for petrol as an average over 5 years) = £8031 spent on fuel during the life cycle of the car.

Having said that, my last full tank produced 350 miles plus another 25 left on the range when I filled up. (Shell Fuel Save)

375 miles over the 55 litre (12 gallon) tank = 31.25mpg which isnt bad with a little hooning and one or two short journeys involved. Although really the bulk of it was motorway driving.

I regularly achieve 36 - 38mpg on a good motorway run.

Mine is a 2004 3.0i Auto, I average about 28mpg but that is because most of my trips are 5 miles or less and mainly stop start, I get about 33mpg on longer runs.

I have no idea other tHan what the computer says. I bought the car without a care for fuel as the last 2 years calculating every mile were the most boring of my motoring life. I like to drive it like fuel was free.
