Eccentric shaft sensor

Hi all, looking for some advice on my 2 litre e85. Replaced the rocker cover a year ago and at the time cleaned out the ess of oil. No problems until recently when it has thrown a code of ess plausibility. 2A5D
If I replace the sensor, is it just plug and play or does it require calibrating? Thanks in advance.

I also have a 2 litre e85 and had to change my eccentric shaft sensor due to poor idling and running.. On first start up after replacement the car ran very badly, however after revving it a few times it sorted itself out and has since run so much better. I think the revving allows the computer to re set itself..
Having said that I have read other posts where people have had to reset it on a diagnostic programme..
Is your car running poorly ?

Hi Andrew
it has been running ok but now on start up idles at 1300 rpm for about 30 seconds and then settles back. Have the odd misfire but that is it.
Since the oil is all around the pins of the sensor thought I had better do something about it.

I am only experienced with the 6-cyl M54 so could be talking garbage (as usual), but I believe a lot of the diagnostic tools allow you to reset various 'learned' settings to a more plausible default. I used the Autophix 5900 to do that when I overhauled the Vanos on wifey's 2.5i.
It still took a while to settle down, but I think using a milder default to start from may result in less dodgy performance to begin with.

Hi Andrew
did you have to remove the timing chain guide bolt as detailed in tis to remove the sensor?
