Eccentric shaft sensor, Valvetronic motor

Got a couple of fault codes come up on my car OBD reader today when I noticed my car was idling roughly. It's a 2.0l 2005. Has anyone had these problems and are they easy to fix. ? Thanks.

If you’re handy with spanners it’s only an hour or two to fit a new eccentric cam sensor and a new servo motor. Plus new top cover seals.

Thanks guys for your replies. I'll use Google and YouTube. Thanks again
Can’t remember where you are located, but I’m happy to assist if needed.

Have a google and let me know if you need any assistsance via Whatsapp.

No probs mate, I'll have a look and see how big of a job it is. I wouldn't mind I only fitted a new Rocker cover gasket only a few months ago. I've spent a wee bit of money on the old girl so far. Refurbished rear subframe last month, rear discs and handbrake cables to get it through the MOT. 🀦😭

If you're careful you should be able to re-use the rocker cover gasket.
In fact. if you've done that job then you were 80% of the way to changing the motor and sensor anyway.

Hopefully I can re use the gasket. If not I'll have to get a new one. I see the problem with doing the eccentric shaft sensor is the chance of dropping the bolts into the engine bay.!! Surely there must be an easier way. 🀦I'm assuming the Valvetronic motor is just a simple swap over .? Does the ECU need programming. ? Thanks for your help πŸ‘

In my case the oil seal for the eccentric shaft sensor had failed and was letting oil up into the sensor contact pins and then into the sensor itself, which then needed to be replaced. The new one I put in was made by Vemo which I bought from Autodoc. It must be pretty good because I found that a few moths after fitting it, oil was again seeping past the seal and contaminating the pins because the i.d. of the oil seal was too big. I cleaned up the sensor and replaced the oil seal with a better fitting one I got from ebay (usaseller-888. New internal diameter = 21mm, old I.D. = 24mm) and it's all ok again now.
You can change the ESS seal without having to dismantle the rocker cover and there are a couple of useful YouTube vids on it as well.

Regarding thw Valvetronic part of this post. How would you reset the valvetronic unit?
A decent code reader should do it. My current Autophix 7910 will and I'm pretty sure the 5900 I had before that did it as well.
