eBay starting to wind me up...

I'm a big fan of eBay... have used it for over 10 years and bought anything and everything along the way. But in the last few months I've bid on more than a dozen Z4 items, all of which have then had bids removed because the auction has been ended early. Just happened again today, on a set of brake calipers...

Sellers seem to use eBay just to 'advertise', letting people contact them directly (against eBay's rules) and then cancel the auction. I get why... so they don't have to pay eBay for their final auction price. eBay have classifieds for cars - why not for other things too? At least then, everyone stands a chance of doing the same.

As you can tell, it's starting to wind me up... is it just me? :headbang:
 
I agree but I do understand why they do it, 10% final fee plus about 3.5% PayPal fees (of the full amount not the amount after final fee) does stink
 
yeah 10% is a big kick in the nuts, especially if you sell something expensive...... so many people take cash in hand and do a deal. i know i have on a number of occasions and saved myself a good bit of cash and passed on the savings too
 
As I said, I understand why people do it - especially in the current financial climate. But it is against eBay's current rules to contact a seller to arrange a sale outside of eBay.

Sod's law would dictate that the first time I do it, I'll get caught and have my account suspended... and as I use it to buy loads of stuff for business etc, I can't really afford to take my chances. At the moment I'm bidding on stuff in a perfectly correct manner and losing out pretty much every single time...
 
i wouldnt do it if i was a trader on ebay however i personally have been stung by ebay charges and dont have any sympathy for the profits they make regardless if this is somewhat immoral
 
...and as I'm posting on here, I've just received another email saying my bid has been retracted on a Z4 item on which I have been bidding as it has been sold... that's four this week. :headbang:
 
It is so annoying, I always leave my auctions to run, but I understand people's temptation to take the money and run, I guess if you can't beat them join them, just contact the sellers and make an offer, or at least ask them to email you if they are thinking of selling before the end of the auction. (Send them your personal email)

It's certainly not effecting ebay, their 2nd quarter income doubled year on year.
