E89 Wheels - 17 Wheel tyre size

Ok I am being bit of a geek - I apologise in advance.

I noticed that the tyres are staggered on the 2009 Sdrive23/30i running 17 inch rims. F 225 45 17 / R 255 40 17. On the latest technical spec's for a 2012 Z4 they show they are running 225 45 17.

Suppose my question if are the wheels different on the 2009/12 cars and if not then assumption is I could move to 225 45 17 on the back. Or is it that the four pot's engines are lighter and therefore the set-up is geared for that?

Actually have plenty of life in my tyres just geek'ing out a bit.....

Interesting question but i haven't got a clue what the answer is.Hopefully someone intelligent will come along soon :D
 
It depends on which wheels, the 17" turbines (standard on the 35i) come with 255/40 rears but the other 17" wheels usually have 225/45 all round. The turbines are half an inch wider 8" fronts / 8.5" rears.

If you have the standard 5 spokers they should be on 225/45 all round.
 
Not that this helps to answer the question but i have 225/40 18's on the front and 255/35 18's on the back.At least it bumps the thread.
