E89 Warm Up / Cool Down Time?

Hey all,

Just curious as to what everyone is doing in terms of warm up and cool down times for these cars? Do you guys let these idle for a few minutes, or are you waiting for temps to go up on the gauge while driving etc....

Thanks

Mine is my daily drive and I don't wait till it's warmed up, get in and go. But I do take it easy, try to stay below 3k rpm until the oil temp starts getting to where it should be.

Havn't had the car long so happy to be corrected by anyone else mind :)

Hi, I start up & drive off straight away-as long as you take it easy nothing bad will happen-when I get home I just turn it off :P
It's different if you are going out for some laps of brands hatch etc but for commuting/normal driving there's no need.
It's not a formula 1 car, just treat it with respect while it's cold & don't hammer it just before you get home, it will be fine.

The handbook says 6 miles to warm up. Below 3k revs in urban traffic, mine takes longer.

Whatever, the gauge is for the oil temperature, thank goodness, which is a far better guide than water, of course.

As for warming down, if you live in the city or suburbia, this happens naturally as you drive home, doesn't it?
