E89 service light reset

Hi, I am new to the E89 and have just recently serviced my new to me E89 2010 2.3i, I have renewed the filters, oil, plugs and coil packs. I now in the past few days started getting the service light on occasionally when starting, it’s the yellow car elevated on what looks like a hydraulic ramp, I am guessing it is the reminder to get your vehicle serviced as opposed to an indicator of a new issue??

How do you reset this? I looked online but the method I tried didn’t work, it involved turning the key but not starting then pressing the left dash button….my E89 has the fob with engine start button so not sure if I’m doing it right??? An idiots guide would be very much appreciated, thanks in advance. ( oh I also searched this forum but the only link seemed to have the video missing)

Check the date stamped on the battery terminal, if it’s over 5 or 6 years old consider changing it as an old battery can cause lots of electrical faults.

The yellow light with car elevated is for an annual inspection. Not sure how to reset it without the use of a diagnostic tool though.

Ok I have now sorted it, didn’t realise the car on a ramp symbol opens a list of interval, distance, time dated service checks and you reset the individual ones that are red once sorted. I used this video https://youtu.be/Wk_GKrFp-9I
Straight forward really…..especially when you realise you can press the engine start button without the clutch pressed 🙈 that is how you turn on ignition without starting engine 😎

Thanks for that reminder Naylz. Service light been bonging at me since last October.
Garage not reset after last oil/filter change. Have reset service date to October 2022, so hoping now
it stops bonging at me every time i get in the car

Why is nothing ever straight forward???? Ok so I reset the service light or so I thought, and now it came back on again 💩 after many button presses it displayed a code CC ID 415….so it seems my battery is in fact on its way out, thanks who suggested this earlier. So what battery do people recommend, it’s a 2010 E89 2.3i and pretty sure it has the original battery fitted still. Guess it is cheaper to buy and fit myself but then I would need to register it, can most garages do this?

Buddy if you are home servicing you would be best off buying an obd tool that can code the battery, you can then easily reset service lights when required as well as things like moving the electronic parking brake into the service position when doing pads, they're a handy thing to have on a car with this many sensors, modules and microswitches, you could pick up one on Amazon and a battery from Tayna for less than the cost of a battery fitted and registered by a dealer

Hi, I have a Creator C310+ reader that I had for my E85 Z4, unfortunately for the life of me I cannot work out how to register a battery using it despite it being on sale claiming you can do just that with this model reader. However in my defence my other car is a 28 year old Landrover defender for which I have an array of hammers for such technical adjustments 😎

I'm pretty sure the Creator C310+ can do it?
'Colb' is the man to ask as I believe he uses one.
I have the Autophix 5900 which also says it can do it, but I've not had occasion to test that yet.

Yep I also use the autophix 5900 and I have registered a battery with it..as enuff says though the c310 should be able to code a battery..if you get stuck stick down your location, there will be plenty of folk that can help you out with a battery coding..Im in North Wales and will happily do it for you free of charge if you are nearby
Battery wise I fitted this https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/lucas/lf096/ but any 096 agm battery should suffice

Thanks for the offer, I am near Northwich, Cheshire if I don’t get it sorted I sure a nice drive out to north wales will be in order 👍🏻 The C310 came with a disc which looks to be some kind of update program but it doesn’t work on my PC. I will order a battery this week and post back on here. Seems the Varta E39 AGM is the one, Bosch do an S5A08 one too with an extra year guarantee, both are listed for stop start vehicles which mine is not, however all the other spec is correct compared to the one currently fitted (Varta BMW battery)

I have the C310. I bought it a few years ago for my E90. It cannot register the battery.

I use Carly now on both cars for slightly more advanced diagnostics; plus coding stuff like registering the battery, auto-fold mirrors, roof operation while moving, headlight brightness, brakelight operation etc.

Others prefer other tools such as BimmerTools etc.

There's also the option of installing BMW Tools like INPA, WinKFP etc. but they take a bit more effort and learning compared to (e.g) the Carly app on your mobile phone.

Hi Mr Tourette, I have ordered my battery and also decided to invest in upgrading my reader, I have just ordered the AUTOPHIX 7910 (2021 upgraded) so fingers crossed I can register my battery myself. Thanks for the offer though 👍🏻😎
