E89 New Alloys Fitment Advice

Hi Guys,

I am need of some advice for changing my alloys please. Complete novice here so apologies in advance.

My current OEM alloys: Front = 8J x 19” ET29 and Rear = 9J x 19” ET40
My current tyres: Front = 225/35 R19 and Rear = 255/30 R19

I want to go for these :-

Front - 19x8.5 ET38
Rear - 19x9.5 ET40

I think they will sit 4mm inside at the front, and 6mm further out at the rear? Is this correct? Do I need spacers?

Basically I would like my new alloys to sit on the car the same / as close to the OEM's as possible.

With regards tyres and the 8J/9J vs. 8.5J/9.5J width differences should I stick with the same tyres dimensions as OEM or would you suggest differently? Going for Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

Any help would be greatly received.
 
Rears a great fit but i wouldn't go 255 30 on 9.5j rims :cry:
The fronts would be around 3mm further in on face but rears of them will be 15mm closer to suspension strut :? perhaps spacers may be needed but nothing crazy
For tyre size comparison on Se spec springs / height i had 235 40 19s on my recent E89 / 8.5j fronts 255 35 19 on 9.5j rears but i would have gone 265 35 ideally if i hadnt already had the rear tyres

Ok many thanks Mr Wilks. Clearly I got my calculations wrong :oops:

Please can you let me know what spacers you would recommend for the rears?

Maybe a really stupid question but what advantages/benefits would your preferred choice of 265 35 tyres have given you?

Sorry , just to be clear the proposed rears will fit fine , just the tyres 255 30 on 9.5j will give little comfort & look like a rubber band :oops:
The spacers may only be required for the fronts if you find the 15mm inset to much ( this is the rear face of the front wheel compared with current style 326s ) the 2/3mm the outside face will sit in i doubt you will even notice
Upsizing the tyre profiles offers more alloy protection , more comfort & if needed also closes arch gap without lowering although your Msport will be sitting lower already than my Se spec was
The rear 89 arches on 9.5j will swallow 265 35 tyres easily although 255 35 will fit as on my pic above
Front rubber needs a little more consideration , especially with brand new tyres as it can be literally 2mm that may catch over very uneven ground taken at speeds therefore suspension is on full compression almost
i would possibly go 225 40 19 front on the 8.5j or 235 35
 
Aha! Got it - I'll go with the tyre recommendations you have suggested.

Really want to prevent the fronts catching for sure.

Then RE Msport sset up & with the front offsets as they are i would opt for 235 35 fronts / 255 / 265 35 rears

Mr Wilks thanks again for your help. What do you think? I am not 100% sure CSL style alloys suit the E89... liking the new MPSS tyres though apart from a small occasional vibration felt in the steering wheel.

I am not convinced yet - I think the problem is that 326 m wheels are so nice! I will take some more pics at the weekend. The photo above doesn't really show but they are quite a bit darker than the OEM silver and I feel they look a little "bling".

Hopefully!!! I drove down to Southampton & back at the weekend (100+ miles) after the mobile fitter had been. I shouldn't have said felt the vibration really.. It was more if I took my hand(s) off the steering wheel I noticed a slight vibration visually. I will probably get them checked out just to be safe.

First thing to check is the "fitting" dots on the tyre , if you find a yellow dot (lightest point ) that should be where the valve is on the rim
A red dot is the heaviest & should be opposite the rim , not all tyres have them though
Nothing more annoying than a "slight" feel through steering wheel :cry:
 
Thanks :thumbsup: - I will be sure to check the dots out tomorrow. All I checked after fitting was that there wasn't any "inside" writing on any of the 4 tyres and no marks/scapes to the alloys.

In all honesty I was just happy to be driving the Zed after 2 weeks in the garage with a cracked alloy. But I do know what you mean.. when I first got my E85 it had a steering wheel slight 'twitch' constantly left to right / right to left the second I hit 60mph+ and it was very annoying. A decent alignment sorted that out.
 
The slight vibration turned out to be the balancing.. they were way out on each corner :( . I guess that's one of the downsides of using a mobile fitter.

While I was at the garage I had an alignment done. The operator claimed no adjustments were needed (despite me pointing out the red bits :oops: on the print out - attached). He said all within spec and I should scrub in my MPSS tyres then to go back for another check :cry:

Can I have second opinions please? Given the cost of the tyres my main fear is uneven wear which I had on my E85 3.0si (inner edge).

I would start a new post and title with your alignment picture Wrs, this is an old post now and you'll definately get a response from a new one, old posts often get ignored.

As for the CSL wheels they look good, I didn't used to like CSL's on E89's but I've changed my mind, car looks great imho. :thumbsup:
