I have a 2010 Z4 sDrive 23i which I've owned for 12 years and until recently the engine has never missed a beat. I took the car into my local Stratstone BMW dealership for a recall item to be done - the title of the recall letter I received was 'Rework The Screw Connection Of The VANOS Adjuster'. They said it would take a day to complete, however they ended up having to keep the car for 3 days which worried me a bit but they assured me everything was OK. The day after I collected it, I started noticing a slight misfire when accelerating. A friend was able to run a diagnostic check which revealed the fault code '0030C1 DME: Engine-oil pressure control, static'. The mileage for this fault code was 59333. The mileage on the dealership's vehicle health check report is 59332. So it literally occurred after leaving the workshop.
I took the car back to the dealership with the info in hand, but I'm just getting completely fobbed off. They say they understand how it looks, but it's likely to just be a coincidence that the fault occurred just after they worked on it. I was also told that the 0030C1 fault code would definitely not cause a misfire, even though I showed them some internet research that suggests a misfire can be a symptom of that fault. They have agreed to book the car in for a diagnostic to get to the bottom of the fault, but I will be liable for the bill if they conclude it's nothing to do with the recall work.
I'm after some advice how to play this, and how/who to escalate to if I don't get a satisfactory resolution. Is it just my word against theirs?
Any help appreciated,
Jonathan
