E89 gone, Alpina arrives :-)

Having had a 3.0 coupe for 2 years I changed to a 35i in September. The improved interior quality and twin turbo engine were great on the test drive, and I thought I could learn to live with the DCT, maybe even like it!

The E89 was a nice car, but as others have said on here not really an interactive experience. It was certainly quick, but did not involve the driver in the same way as my old coupe. The DCT was smooth and very fast, but pushing a button is just not the same as slotting gears by hand - I am getting on a bit, and don't have an X-box thingy.

Only one thing for it, it had to go and a purer sports car needed. I offered a trade in for something cheaper in the ad, and I got an offer from a nice guy with an Alpina roadster .

Deal done Friday and I'm a happy man. The Alpina looks good, but the most amazing thing is the steering response and smooth but involving ride. Of course the 3.4 engine is powerful, although doesn't have the instant torque of the 35i. I think I even prefer the look of the e85 shape, more hard edged and very compact.

Sure it needs a bit of work, but it is 8 years old, and I like having a project.

So Alpina ownership started, and looking forward to the summer if it ever get here.

Looks a lovely Alpina, Perry Gunn and Stuart Truman are our resident Alpina guys, plenty of knowledge there if you need to access them :thumbsup: :driving:

I shall one day scratch my Alpina itch, although more likely in one of those B3 GT3 things. Must admit to being smitten by the one at Zedfest last year.

Already had contact with Ade, he's even in my neck of the woods in South Wales. Need to get out to those Brecon roads used by Monkey Harris for his videos.

It's build number 308. It has a few stone chips that need sorting, and a scratch on the spoiler, but nothing that's not easily fixed. The Alpina wheels also need a refresh, but I do like 'em
 
308 - a good number :thumbsup:

Congrats on the purchase - I think this is the first e89 to e85 migration I've heard of. Lovely car :driving:
