E89 - cruise control

Hi,

can anyone please confirm if cruise is standard on UK S30 or S35 please? I understand that 'cruise with break function is an extra, but what about standard cruise?

- on that same note, does anyone here have the option with the break function? - any good?

many thanks.

Yep, got brake function. It works well. If you are going down hill the car brakes & sticks to the limit you set. Would be interesting to see how it coped with something on the scale of, say, Porlock Hill.

Hi

I thought all the cruise controls on E89 had brake function, didn't realise they did not. I guess mine has the NO brake function then??

I have got cruise, but wasn't sure on the brake function, if I do or do not have it, how can one tell??

Can someone confirm the safe way to id if the cruise does or does not have brake function.

Thanks

iwatchlive, just drive downhill with cruise set, and it will apply the brakes to stop the momentum increasing your speed.

Brakes will also apply if you get too close to the car in front of you, and then it will natch speeds. Really nice feature

"Brakes will also apply if you get too close to the car in front of you"..............er.....no. Well not on mine they don't. I have brake function, but what you are talking about is active cruise control which monitors distance to car in front and slows you down (to a stop if necessary). I think that is a few bob more.

"Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function" is not available on E89. It has a sensor fitted at the front bumper to detect the car at the front.

Thanks for all of the replies guys. Just spending time speccing a Z4 s35 in my mind for when I return to the UK.

Sorry - didn't mean to cause confusion re the 'break function' bit. I noted that on BMW UK, the spec often says 'cruise with break function' and mistook it for the type whereby an optic sensor under the front bumper 'sees' cars ahead and slows the car. My mate has this on his 3 series and did comment that his went mental when it snowed

So basically the Z4 cruise is 'just a basic' cruise control then? I thought that all cruise maintained the speed (up or down). I thought that my old Zed did this anyway.

Was I mistaken?

Thanks

Chris.

My Bad, my Z is a DEMO, so I didn't get to pick any options and therefore only had 1 decision to make "To buy, or not to buy".

Hi Chris & all

I tried my cruise out yesterday on my sDrive 35i DCT with Auto / manual / paddle , You get to the speed you want to set and pull the cruise stalk towards you (say at 69MPH) , then a lovely green light- lights up on the speedo (on the outside rim of the speedo dial) starts at 0MPH and glows all the way around to the speed you are setting (69MPH), nice touch:

you also get a digital confirmation of this in the central digital display flashes 69MPH (between the speedo & rev counter)

If you then go downhill the brakes apply automatically and keep you at the speed you have set, very nice, very controlled, even eloquent :driving:

If you want to speed up or down (in increments of about 1mph I think) without using the accelerator- you can either push (increase) or pull (decrease) the cruise stalk for this, you can also completely disengage or temporarily disengage cruise then return to previous setting if required.

Does not have stop & go option
If I get a chance - I will try and film this today / tomorrow and upload for you to take a look for your self

regards
