E89 CAS Module Location

Hi Guys,

I need some help please.
Where is the CAS module located on the E89?

I have removed the trim below the steering wheel and all i can see is what i believe to be the footwell module. Certainly does not not look the same as the replacement CAS module that i have and has more connectors.

Any help appreciated.

OK, i got it sorted!
I noticed that it's located behind the footwell module.

The footwell module holder has two compartments.
The front one has the footwell module and the rear has the CAS module, so it's not visible.

I had to unscrew the holder, remove the connectors from the FRM module, drop the holder down and pull out the CAS module.
It is held in place by plastic clips that are part of the holder.

However, prior to that i had to remove the footwell trim below the the steering column as well as the side trim covering the footwell speaker.

This was a major pain in the backside. It was much much easier to swap out the ECU.
Anyway, got it done before darkness hits at least.

Did you struggle to get the pug out of the back of the FRM?

My cable had no give and it took me such a long time to be able to actually get my hands on the button to then pull the clip down, I had several tries over a few days it was driving me mad.

I've sent it off for repair but now dreading reinstalling it, maybe I was missing something but I removed the bolt holding in the cradle and tilted it down which finally meant I could get the back plug out, but I have so many bruises and cuts on my hands from squeezing them into the cradle to reach the plug.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as that was challenging!

It’s a pig…in part due to so many wires…getting the car / cables really really warm helps massively

Ahh I see, I didn't understand that there could be anything else I could have done, so that's reassuring, thanks!

I will have to heat them up when putting it back in and hopefully it wont be as much of a painful process!

I'm quite nervous about bricking the FRM again as I have replaced the battery as that is what caused the issue in the first place...

I took my FRM to have it repaired and it’s hanging half in as it was around 0c when I was trying to fit it..

FWIW when assembling some cars the loom sits in a heated / insulated bag prior to fitment on the production line..once it cools its set there..forever…

Easier said than done this time of year with car cold soaked..

I’ll probably hear the garage overnight prior to my next attempt

Yeah that makes sense, when putting it back in I will definitely try and heat up the wires if I'm struggling! Thanks for the tip

Have you ever had any issues with your centre console / armrest locking? Mine's been locked for months and doesn't seem to want to budge, tried opening and closing the roof, holding down lock and unlock buttons etc.
