E86 Z4C or Z4MC

After selling my Z4C to get a more usable car I have since has a change in career that has now resulted in me getting a company vehicle that is more than useable so I now want a weekend car back in my life!

Therefore I am after a Z4C 3.0Si I would love to get a Z4MC but really my budget is limited to around the 15k mark and I don’t think I’d get one for that!

I would like a decent spec car and I would want a Manual.

Other options I’m looking at if I can’t find the right Z4 are as follows, Porsche Cayman, 370z or some silly hot hatch perhaps. Feel free to let me know why they are poor options 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks guys

I’m in a similar situation, about to get a company car after a long time without, although it means I have at least one too many Zeds in the stable. I’ll probably put both up for sale but you might be interested in my coupe. Genuine low miles, two owners, great condition and well within your budget (in fact you could buy both my Zeds). If Monaco Blue SE spec (with M-Sport seats fitted) doesn’t put you off, then PM me for details.

As to your other choices, the Cayman is a great car, but the beemer has great looks, reliability, easy to work on and a degree of exclusivity that the others just can’t match.

And you get the benefit of this amazing forum.

Can you not save longer? 20-23k will get you a nice Z4MC. Ive had both and 15k will get you a really nice Z4MR which imo is a better experience from a noise and experience point of view. The Z4MC does drive slightly better than the rack is faster which makes it feel sharper and obviously its looks but currently the MR is the bargain of the sports car world.

Just bare in mind these are old now and budget spends. Mounts, bearings, suspension etc All Ms car regardless of milage will need this sort of attention which adds up quickly. Ive spent about 4k so far on mine on non aesthetic maintenance and still have all the above to do. The M is certainly higher on the maintenance scale than the 3.0l. Important to do your research and checks on them.

I had the same choice earlier this year - the difference between 10K and 20K for a 3.0 and an MC.... Luckily I was able to go for the Z4MC but I have since spent 5K on it with Vanos, Shell bearings, Aircon, Brakes... all are considerations with older cars nowadays I guess

Because they aren't E86s obviously!

After 5+ years of 3.0Si Coupes I started looking at MCs in 2019 and viewed 3 for less than £15K (I bought the 3rd one) but prices have taken off since then.

Any MC up for £15K now is towards the bottom of the market and if it needs new rod bearing shells and engine mounts you need to factor in another four figures at an Indy. Then a chunk more if an Inspection service is due. And silly Road Tax too.

But as it is only a weekend car I love my MC. Running costs are way higher than my 3.0Sis but I knew that anyway and it just feels so much more special.

Good luck whatever you decide to get.
