Please Note: - I have only listed this currently in the Z4 Forum as you are now reading it, I have not yet had chance to clean and photograph the car before it may find its way to Facebook & Ebay also in the new year. It is a long read granted and honestly, rest assured I have absolutely no issue holding onto this car if I cannot find a suitable buyer, I am in no rush, I do not need it gone or need the money so any stupid offers will be ignored. Anyway, grab a cup of tea and enjoy the read, any further questions please let me know! Pictures to follow shortly into the new year if the weather allows! – I have attached a few pictures from the past 5 months for a reference, but these are not the sales pictures they will be taken properly to showcase the vehicle, the interior picture does not show the ZHP Gearknob because I had not fitted it at that point (Photo taken the day after I collected and cleaned the car).

I understand the majority of people who read these posts are already Z4 Owners and won't actually have any interest in buying the car but if anyone does have any questions feel free to drop me a private message.

Here for sale in my BMW E86 Z4 3.0si, I have owned this car for only 5 months after always wanting to try one and it is safe to say they do not disappoint, they are a fantastic car! I am only looking to sell due to a change in my circumstances that simply means having just 2 seats is not impossible but rather inconvenient so toying with the idea of replacing the Z4 with another car that has 5 seats! - Private Plate N70 BLA will not be removed unless a sale in agreed, at the point a deposit is taken the registration will be retained.

I purchased the car from a member of the Z4 Forum who had owned the car for 9 years and taken great care of the vehicle although as you may see by the MOT History with the car covering just 6,000 miles in the past 4 years and honestly, the car is an absolute credit to him and is genuinely stunning I believe the previous owner before himself was also on this forum, a few issues discussed below are simply down to the car being old now and needing a few components refreshing.

Here is a quick rundown of the vehicle’s specification and maintenance history,

ZHP Gearknob (Brand New) – This was advertised on the vehicle when I purchased but I didn’t actually have the ZHP Gearknob but it does now after I fitted a brand new one.
2 x working cupholders – Recently replaced as one of them was sticking slightly.

Service history and other common items below. The water pump and thermostat have been replaced as a preventative measure, and the alternator was also recently replaced.
Only bad points are:
Light curbing on the NSF Alloy – I can have this rectified before sale if asking price is met (Have been avoiding it because its minor and Garage cannot promise colour match and I if I end up having to have all 4 resprayed to match I'd wait until Summer to do this)
The satnav doesn't know where it is - I understand this is a relatively easy fix to get a new GPS sensor but I have no intention of ever using the Sat Nav in this car.
Some minor scratches and stone chips (I think it's in good condition for a 15 year old / 91k mile car) - All Cars will have a few marks at this age.

When I got the Z4 it was great but had a few niggles that needed to be rectified, I hate ignoring issues so went about fixing all issues as quickly as I could.

First issue was the OSF Bi-Xenon light allowing water ingress, I intended to replace this the back cover as most do and rectify the issue but after removing the headlight found the rear bracket itself had snapped from a previous bulb change hence letting water in, resulting in the only fix being a replacement light - £642.68 Genuine Headlight ordered through LLL Parts, replaced the Ballast and fitted on the drive all good problem fixed – No issues since.

Next extremely annoying issue was a rattle from the rear exhaust, another somewhat common issue the NSR Exhaust hanger has snapped away from the back box, I took the opportunity to leave the car with a local Exhaust Fabricator who removed the exhaust completed, removed some of the internals from the rear box and mid box (Sounds Perfect trust me, not overly loud or anti-social but purposeful and makes a few pops if you get right up the rev range) welded the hanger back onto the rear box and refitted with new gaskets at the front. - £24.36 Genuine Gaskets x 2 I supplied from BMW - £350 in Labour for the Work and Exhaust modification completed. – A Rattle gone and an exhaust note improved, money well spent if you ask me.

Next, Fog Lights did not work at all, quick check and they were full of water and ruined, second hand units ordered from Ebay, New bulbs fitted and 10 minutes to replace them and 2 working fog lights.

Even though the vehicle had only covered 1000 miles since its last service it was 12 months ago so I added a full service to the list and with it being 6 years since I could see the plugs had been changed, I added those to the list, furthermore at 90k miles I thought it was a good idea to replace the gearbox and differential fluids at the same time and brake fluid for good measure.

I have invoices for all the following service parts (Circa £200)
Mann oil filter
Mann air filter
ATE type 200 brake fluid dot4
Millers EE performance c3 5w-40 oil (1 litre top up in boot)
Bosch double platinum spark plugs

Having ordered all of the following and waiting to do as much work as possible in the time I had of work I then noticed that there was a vibration in the steering between 50-60 and it almost felt a little indirect for a so called sports car, this I can forgive at the age and the mileage it took me all of 10 minutes on google to come to the conclusion the Front Lower Arms and Lolly Pop Bushes were probably past their best, the same pages highly recommended the Meyle HD Lower Arms, so I set about ordering the Lower Arms + Powerflex Front ARB Bushes as well to try and tighten up the steering and front end again. Further - £267.83 – Parts Alone.

Quick Breakdown of who did what (Invoices for All)

BMW Specialist AP Automotive – Replace Gearbox Oil / Replace Differential Oil and Fit Supplied Spark Plugs - £210.48 – September 21
Local Independent – CR Garage – Fit Supplied Front Arms, Lolly Pop Bushes, Upgraded ARB Bushes and Alignment + Brake Fluid Change - £324.76 – September 21
Renault Shrewsbury – Oil Change / Air Filter / Oil Filter - £Beer Tokens to the Master Technician – Perks to being the Sales Manager there.

After having this completed the car felt 100 times better but… the steering wobble was still somewhat present which led me to about 100 different reasons of what this could be etc etc etc, car went back to the garage and they couldn’t find anything wrong and were adamant it was perfect.

So, I couldn’t just leave it I kept digging and found out they don’t have a hunter alignment and having a quick look at the wheels the weights on them from who ever has fitted the tyres on the alloys before my ownership had clearly had a heavy night the previous evening as they were far from straight so, I booked in to a fantastic independent back home (Recently Moved Out) for a Full vehicle Inspection, Hunter GEO Set Up and all 4 Wheels Rebalanced. - £196.80

Best money I spent to far, alignment was way out and all 4 wheels weren’t balanced to 0. Just wow, the car now drives amazingly, no vibration at 50, 60, 70. Straight and direct just how it should be, I cannot stress how well the car drives now compared to how it drove the day I picked it up and I still fell in love and bought it anyway, the E86 has that effect on you, trust me.

Other Little bits I have done that are worth mentioning,

New Velour BMW Mats - £70
New Badges (Others were tired and tatty – Bonnet, Boot Lid, All Wheels)
New Clips on Light access flap in arch liner – All Were Broken
All 4 Brake Callipers Painted in Heat Resistant Silver Paint + Retaining Clips all replaced with brand new items to finish the clean look.
2 x New Genuine BMW Exhaust Tips (Previous Were Showing their Age, Great Addition)
Rear Windows Professionally Tinted to Factory 20% Tint -£186.00 Including Grill work below
Front Grills Removed and Chrome Edges wrapped in Gloss Black
Genuine M-Sport BMW Dust Caps (Not Shitty Ebay Replicas)

You can look on the forum from the previous owner you will see the car was advertised at £9,000 with a few things I knew needed doing and some others done just to make the car how it should be, in the last 5 months I have spent not far off £3000 rectifying issues and replacing tired and worn parts.

The car itself represents a fantastic opportunity for someone to have a brilliant example of an E86 having the important M-Sport Seats (Heated!), Bi-Xenon Headlights, Hi-Fi Sound System, Rear Parking Sensors, M-Sport Suspension. The important Water Pump has been replaced with invoiced to prove, the essential fluids in the diff and gearbox people ignore to save £200 have been replaced and the tired suspension components have been replaced!

I have reviewed the market seeing what has been listed for sale and what is currently for sale, there a few cars at 70k miles 13-14k, some are priced stupidly with low spec, I have seen others privately at similar prices with slightly lower mileage but also much lower specification which is a big thing on the E86's with them being hard to come by finding one that ticks all the boxes can be a long wait, the only thing arguably you could add to my E86 is Cruise Control which is a cheap retrofit thankfully rather than trying to find a second hand set of M-Sport seats to chuck in one!

List Price will be £10,750 Firm.

Thank you for taking the time to read my advert! Have a good new year!

With the number of ‘E86 wanted’ adds on here, I can’t see this one hanging around for months like some do… great colour, great Specification, traceable forum history, very popular wheel choice on premium rubber and a significant amount of recent maintenance… and what feels like a reasonable ask in the current climate.
