I've just had all the centre console out to wrap the ali panels. When I've come to put it all back together, I have a spare plug behind the panel where the ashtray and heated seat, DSC etc buttons are? I can't see anywhere that it plugs into, so I was wondering if it's just a redundant plug that would have been used in the e85?

Do you have a photo of the plug? I just reassembled my E86 (had no interior - had to work out what each connector was), so while it's fresh in my mind I might recognise it...
And just checking - you did connect both plugs into the DSC control panel? That has a large, and a small plug...
I didn't think to take a photo, but yes I did. I think there was the big plug, with a smaller one on the same bit of loom, both of which I plugged in, and the white molex type connector.
The spare looked the same as the other small connection, but not wrapped in the same loom. I think everything still works, so I thought it might be redundant on the Coupe, as I think the e85 has an extra button that relates to the roof?
