First posting since joining; hopefully it will make sense.
Recently bought 2008 E86 Coupe and have been having a couple of problems with Sat Nav system.
Pro Sat Nav not reading original 2008 DVD. All cleaned but still same.
Display selection freezing after a couple of minutes and not responding to head unit inputs. No lines etc and works fine otherwise.
Went back to dealer who has agreed to fix under warranty insurance.Quote from BMW independent was nearly £5K which is obviously not going to happen. Diagnostics were CID A468 cable break to MASK or NAVI and NAV Mk4 system 0001.
I am now left with two choices.
1. Get a Pioneer 1 DIN flip out Apple Car Play unit installed and paid for under warranty insurance for approx £1100 (may be cheaper if DSP connection is easily done, the auto shop is not sure if X5 connectors can be used or something more bespoke is required)
2. Try and get the units repaired, at least the Sat Nav and Head unit and possibly the display; the cost for which I have no idea.
If I go route 1) I will end up with up to date features but lose originality. I would also potentially have a benign display taking up valueable space. I have noticed the X5 E83 models offer a storage unit to replace the screen unit - does anyone know if this is a compatable part?
Route 2) would retain originality but could be prone to future problems and will probably cost near to upgrade cost.
Any comments that help or experience of similar dilemma would be appreciated......
