E86 Petrol smell after start up

Hi all,
I fitted a new OEM air filter last week in my 2007 Coupe (this not been changed from new although the car has a full dealer service history!!). I can now smell petrol on start up - is this normal due to the increased air flow??

Don't think that is normal, never noticed as far as I am aware any smell of petrol at start up in mine.

No doubt someone will be along soon who can offer some more advice

On a cold day bound to smell petrol as the car is running rich until it warms up but apart from that you shouldn't no.

As a newbie I posted about servicing my car and like yours it has a full BMW service history but not had an air filter change in 10 years. Must be a universal con operated by dealers.

Hi Mike6, like you, I'm new to the Z4 scene too. Having read so many bad things about dealers on here, it beggars belief as to why anyone would use them unless absolutely necessary. I checked my air filter the other day and found it in very good, clean condition. When I need a replacement, they are less than £15 on ebay and so easy to fit yourself. Oil change at the dealers is over £100. Yet I buy 7 litres of Castrol Edge Long Life and an oil filter for £48 and my local garage does the change for £15!! I just wonder exactly WHAT does a dealer actually do to your car for the price of an expensive service?

i know mine if i start it in garage fist thing in morning you can smell petrol (running rich) , but when im putting it away its fine
