I need help with my sound generator I've removed both sponges and still no difference in sound, I'm I missing something ? 2008 e86 help kev xx
 
You must be. From experience when both foams are out there's a lot of noise in the cabin. Maybe access the hole in the bulkhead through the cabin to see if there's something you missed?

I suppose it’s possible the diaphragm could be damaged, that would reduce the sound heard in the cabin :?

Checked bulkhead all seems ok just no noise very slight air noise nothing more. So frustrating x is the diaphragm in the round generator itself??

It is the sound generator, the air waves from the engine make it act like a drum and the resulting sound passes through the pipe/bulkhead.
It’s just the other side from where the pipe is attached with a jubilee clip.

You also need to check that you have positive connections at both ends.
When I removed one piece of foam I thought it sounded dreadful until I realised I hadn't refitted the pipe correctly at the bulkhead.
 
Yeh, refitting the pipe properly in the bulkhead after removing the foams is quite awkward, I suspect its not located properly. You really need to get your head up behind the glove box on the passenger side with a torch. You can also get a clear view of it by dropping the fusebox.
