E86 LCM Fire

Hey everyone, new member here.
Recently i purchased a new to me 07' E86 3.0si Coupe. As the title states the LCM module caught on fire and melted part of the harness that plugs into it. I have already removed the dash and gained access to the wiring, but now I'm trying to figure out correct wiring and pin layout. Has anyone gone through similar harness repair and have the correct pin layout or wiring diagram they are willing to share? Any help is appreciated. Thanks !

Chris @Street has experienced this on a previous car

I’ve just replaced the loom on my e86 after a loom burn with hvac part

NewTIS is your friend here for wiring diagrams and you’ll need to look for the right one: LHD, xenon or halogen etc

Thanks for the reply. I tired signing up on NewTIS but it seems as they are not taking new members.

I would probably go the same route as you and swap in a good used harness but E86 coupes are hard to come by in US. Ideally for now splice in a new section where it caught on fire and see what it does.

Hi LazZ4, I think you’ve called your solution already. A matching facelift loom will make life considerably easier. Roadster with the same headlight type will work.

Im sure I can send you the wiring diagrams to help.

Obviously you’ll want to trying and determine why it melted in the first place as it’s not a 10 min job to repair. Mine was water in a xenon ballast that I think caused the issue.

The fire in mine also melted the clocks and cabling. Replacing both was a challenge as they are the main components to hold your car mileage. The LCM module will need vin matching or you could end up with a mileage tamper dot.

Hi Street, thanks for the reply. Wiring diagrams would be much appreciated if you have any.

I was under the impression roadster and coupe chassis harnesses are not the same because Realoem calls out different part numbers?

At this point i think i will have to live with the tamper dot in the instrument cluster because the fire took out the cluster with it as well... i can look into coding later but at this point getting it road ready is the main goal.

RealOEM will call out different part numbers as the cable lengths will differ slightly to accomodate different routing. You'll see there are supplementary harnesses listed just for the front and rear on both with slightly different part numbers. Anyhow.. the wiring diagrams for both are identical.

The clocks will be fun for you. I ended up fully cloning the EEPROM but if you can save the one from your burnt one you can resolder it onto a replacement set of clocks and all the vital information will move with it. Its a delicate job to warn you. As you say lets get. your wiring sorted first and you can go from there.

I'll ping you some info. Keep us posted, its a rewarding job when it all comes back to life. (The car will never smell the same again though :D)

Happy to help also

Unfortunately I had a spare LCM loom and plug but used it on mine

You should be able to find a breaker in the US for the same and it’s a simple job to repin the plug to your needs
