E85 roadster 2008 roof not working

Afternoon all,

This is quite a reach but would there be anybody in the Surrey area who'd be kind enough to have a look at the roof of my 2008 E85, it doesn't seem to be working at all anymore, the windows don't drop, no sounds when the button is held, I can't even get the manual release to work (latches don't seem to come undone)... Then again, I have quite an untrained eye.

All my local garages are charging extorionate prices just to diagnose the problem, so I'd be really grateful for any good Samaritans around.🫡

I'm a bit far away from you. RBM in Hook do them, but as a business they may be one you've already asked?

1. Are you getting a yellow light? If so, the parcel shelf is up, or the microswitch is damaged.
2. Check fuses 12, 31 and 55
3. Has the battery been disconnected or run flat? If so, you may need to do a window reset first.
4. The red ring in the boot only operates the pump bypass, so if you expected that to sort everything, it has no effect on the front. For that you have to take the access panel off and wind the motor using an allen key, to unhook the latches. Try doing that and see if the roof will then move. If so, it points to a switch problem at the front.
5. If you have pulled the red ring then the plunger can seize in or out. In, it means even if the pump runs the roof won't move. Seized out it means you haven't opened the bypass and you MUST NOT try forcing the roof open against the pressure.
6. Could be a break in the loom on the left side of the roof, usually about level with the top rear corner of the window. Open the door and you should be able to squeeze your fingers in far enough to reach the black sheath holding the loom. If you can feel a knot in it then try massaging that and see if it comes back to life. If so, then you need a loom repair.

So there's a few starters. I'm sure others will be along to help with stuff i've forgotten.

Would also be interesting to hear what kind of quotes you've had so far: and what they may have told you the problem is likely to be.
Always good for a laugh.

Of course, if you happen to have relatives in the Norfolk area you could always combine a visit and drop in here too.

If none of those suggestions works it's definitely worth speaking to RBM Hampshire in Hook as Ross has been sorting roof issues for years.
