For the fist time since ownership I am looking at replacing the rear tyres. I will be leaving the fronts until they need replacing as they are near new on (<3000 miles), I know its frowned upon but that should be ok right providing I'm not pushing the car to its limits, which with winter due would be irresponsible anyway? At least I'm not mixing and matching across the axle that is a dangerous heinous crime.

I've been trying to do some reading up but have only come across one real thread on the subject in recent times, search fail? (http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=71530).

Car is currently on Bridgestone Potenza RE050A 255/35R18 W90 and like on the front.

A like for like switch is going to cost me £ 391.98 (195.99 x 2) Blackcircles.com.. are you kidding me

I had basically all but decided to ditch the run flats as the tram lining is wearing thin and having driven Bish's Z4M on Mich super sports it was like driving a totally different car on the same roads, much less twitchy and all together more settled and confidence inspiring and then I saw the price which unless someone can put forward a cast iron argument for not switching away they are so gone.

I know a bunch of you guys have ditched the runflats on the sports what have you ditched them for and are there any accessories (inflation kit, AA gold membership) that would be recommended?

Black circles are recommending Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 at £321.98 (£160.99 x 2) fully fitted which seems the way to go have also seen people talking about the below but I've no experience with these brands, any thoughts?

Avon ZV5
Hankook Ventus Prime
Nokian zLine

FYI - car will be garaged through snow, so no worries on the its 22nd Nov get winter tyres.

Go for the goodyears. They wear very well. I've had mine on for about 6 months at least and still have about 75% tread. Done about 5,000 miles.

The budget tyres are well priced but wear quicker.

Just my opinion but I'd wait and replace all 4 together.

My runflats are being replaced soon and to be honest I can't wait to get rid of the things - plenty of life left in them but they are truly hideous. Not sure what I'll go for next, it needs a bit more research but possibly the Vredesteins.

As far as having no spare in place of the run flats goes, I'll buy a scissor jack and a small 12v inflator to go with the Stop & go tyre plugger kit I had in the MX5 (no spare with that either). Forget all other puncture repair kits, these things are brilliant and they work without buggering up your tyre.

Used it on the wife's Focus ages ago back in Summer, meaning to have a proper repair done but never got around to it. it gets checked every week but not lost a bit of pressure and it 's still in there. The tyre's due for replacement soon so I'll leave it alone for now.

I ditched my Bridgestone runflats for Pirelli runflats.

Far, far better ride now.

Next time I'll probably go for the vreds and stick a mobility kit in the boot.

With regards to 2 different tyre makes on front-back, I have the same issue and I only notice the difference in grip when cornering rather hard.

They're nangkang ns2's on the front which are very hard and not especially grippy in the wet but fine in the dry. The goodyear eagle f1's on the rear grip extremely well in all conditions, so the car has a tendency to understeer.

Most of the time it's perfectly fine though. It's only if i'm pushing on at a rate of knots that I notice the difference.

Thanks for all the great feedback guys, got the goodyears on order so time to turn off/down the STC and finish off these runflats.

Also on my travels found this, looking forward to 90% comfort over 34% :driving:
