E39 530i or 530d

Toying with the ideas or changing the z4, for the best looking 5 series, the e39. Mainly need the extra so space due to having my first child. Mrs has a 5 door 1 series. Not sure whether I should change or not. Totally different cars, has anyone got experienced with them?

My Mum had a 530i touring and around 110k the cylinder head went, I believe it's not unknown on them. Never tried the diesel. Did like the E39 but after the cylinder head kept playing up after being sorted it was traded for s E61 530d funnily enough. One thing I will say on the E39 the car previous to this was a Volvo 750 T5, my dad loved that car and said it was a flying machine until they got the 530i and he said that was sh1t off a shovel and could see why at the time the police were moving from Volvo T5s to BMs.
