As the E36 M3 is now way cheaper than the E30 M3, the E34 price of M5's have not rallied. Do folk think the price will rise and eventually become more expensive than the E39 M5?

Or will the E34 M5 always be cheaper than the E39 M5 because the E39 was an big improvement over the E34, where as the E36 M3 lost some edge over the E30 M3 to appeal to a wider market? This is not a dig at the E36, just a comparrison.

interesting question- I think both will end as clasics and good examples will always be sought after on both parts and so prices for good clean exampkes will eventually marry up. IMHO of course.

The e34 M5 has hit rock-bottom and can't go anywhere but up.

Most people are scared of the £1000/corner EDC suspension repairs that are inevitable, there's no engines or gearboxes left at BMW and M5-specific trim is a nightmare to get hold of. Everything is expensive for it - major ignition components (i.e. set of leads as they're no longer sold individually) seem to be £250-£500 each.

There's also a lot of concerns where an owner will ask a high price for it, with everything in A1 condition, only for the buyer to come back a week/month later with an engine, gearbox, suspension problem. It's not (usually) the case of the seller trying to pull a fast one, but these cars can bite you in the arse even when you've spent a fortune on it.

I've had two over the course of 7 years and have probably spent £1000/month on my last one, until I saw sense & sold it to get the Z4MC. My M5 specialist is not over the moon though, as he's loosing most of my custom :P
