Just as title says, I'm keen on taking a DYI timing chain replacement project with someone who has already done it.

Good luck, not for the faint hearted given the number of special tools BMW mandates in the process…I’m not aware of any DIYers on this procedure..remember you need a later bottom crank sprocket to go with the revised chain / tensioner system…are you replacing the oil pump drive at the same time ?

Wouldn't be keen on replacing the Oil pump drive, spoke with few mechanics at work today (not acutal car mechanics but experienced lads) and they don't see the point of changing oil pump.

Yeah the BMW tooling is something that's puts me off as far as I looked today, the whole set with a good standard is around £400, I can probably get my timing chain replaced at the cost of £700 at my local, so just balancing the DYI v indy.

If I was going for it, it would be purely for education, then again it's not MX5 where you can buy engine at poundland so chance of breaking £9k vehicle is a little bit off putting tbh.

All understood, they revised the oil pump drive hence my comment…if it’s a keeper maybe it’s a good idea…

Until it’s stripped down it may be academic if swarf has got into too many places.
