DVLA History check - a godsend !

Still trying to find a cheapish ( around £5k ) 7 seater car/4x4 for my daughter and her brood. Been looking at 7 seater Discoverys ( apply named as what I have discovered is common chassis rust !! ) Looked at 4 up to now - all around 2000 - 2004 - the first thing I do is check the V5 number on the DVLA website - every one shows chassis rust starting at about 4 years and then steadily getting worse - one we just looked at - one owner etc recorded excessive to dangerous rust all over chassis, suspension , brakes etc. This is in march 2012 then 2 days later it passes without an advisory by the same garage - presumably having been welded up all over ! Now it's up for sale at a ( reputable garage ! ).

This website really is a godsend when you're looking to buy an older car - by showing all advisories from 2006 you get a much clearer picture of what you looking at .

Still trying to persuade her to look at MPV's instead of 4x4's - other possibles include Terrano and volvo vc90.

+1 gov.uk mot checker. Brother has been looking for a BMW 320cd and 4-5 of them we mot checked (for free) with just the numberplate and the last mot test number, turned out to be clocked! Some of them clocked over 100,000 miles :o

Excellent tool that many people do not know about!

Nice one a link for those that may need it......
