When i bought my z4 3.0 it had just had 2 new wishbones fitted by the previous owner to get the car to pass the mot. Nothing strange there, 3 days after buying the car and just entering the motorway the 3 above lights came on all at the same time: dtc , runflat warning and abs, tried turning the runflat indicator off and it just wouldn't. i know it needed plugging in but decided to buy my own scanner and try myself, the scanner cost around £40 off amazon. for anybody wanting to buy one they are called BM-C310 by creator, the scanner was brilliant and came up with steering angle sensor. There was slight steering play which was an advisory and after a close inspection turned out to be steering rack with a worn pinion gear. a second hand rack was bought along with new inner and outer track rod ends, all fitted well and steering now feels precise as it should be. next was to have 4 wheel alignment and to be honest didnt realise the front tracking was as bad as the garage said, the seller was supposed to have had the tracking done!!, plugged scanner back in no more error codes. drove the car for a couple of minutes and the lights went off, i presume after fitting the new wishbones the seller did not infact get the tracking done. i would not have thought the tracking could cause this but you learn as you go along with these zs . the scanner is a must if you maintain your own car i can highly recommend it. (p.s. just to be honest every where I use the word myself should perhaps have said hubby)
