Hello folks. Got my 2003 Z4 2.5i (55k)on Tuesday. It has full MOT, been serviced and has 3 months warranty. I've never owned a BMW before, so got a bit worried when I saw the run flat indicator light up. Quick phone call, told me how to reset it, the car had just had 2 new tyres fitted. Then yesterday, the "bong" went off, both amber handbrake and yellow triangle lit up. On reading the handbook, it appears to be linked to the DSC. I pressed that button, but it didn't light up. Took it back to dealer today, who had a mechanic hook it up to diagnostics on the spot. I heard him discuss with another mechanic saying "sensor1" had failed. He phoned someone and told me the new part could be fitted tomorrow when it arrives. Fair enough. Thing is, on googling DSC problems, I've read major horror stories on how much this costs if it goes.
Should I just go and end it all now? Will it be covered by the warranty? Sorry if I'm coming across a bit dramatic, but I really couldn't afford a huge bill after just paying for the car.
Had a quick look around the forum, but can't see anything specific about this. :(

Sounds very similar to an issue I was having here. Funnily enough, since the last past in that thread I've not had any further issues, so wonder if my problem wasn't an intermittent connection that I had somehow corrected with my playing around.

The tech will know that it's one of the sensors because the diagnostics computer tells them so. If you're all lined up to get it replaced then I don't expect you'll have any issues afterwards.

It should definitely be covered by the warranty. Don't stress about it ;)

Had the same thing go on mine, but sensor 2. I say go, i haven't actually changed it, it's just intermittent. Hasn't lit up my dash for 5months ish.

Nothing to worry about, it's a £20 part and 30mind tops to change. Just be careful driving as those lights in the dash mean that all driver aids are turned off. You'll easily spin up the wheels and the back will kick.

The sensor picks up if the wheel has traction etc, when the sensor doesn't feedback info to the ecu, the ecu thinks there's a problem and turns off the driver aids. Quick and easy fix is available - you'll see lots of threads on here with even more detail. I'd suggest search along the lines of "amber handbrake" :thumbsup:

Hi again. Took my car back to dealer today. Part fitted in about 10 mins, then another 15 to bleed the brakes if needed. All warning lights are off and I'm in driving heaven, exploring Fife all over again. :)
 
Mine goes in tomorrow to have this looked at, can't complain to much it first raised it's head on Islay last year but disappeared but now comes on virtually all the time.
Checked all 4 wheel sensors today and can see nothing obvious just got to pay the stealer £48 for diagnostic, only drawback to living in the sticks, any saving made at an Indy is offset by the cost of the fuel getting there.

here we go again. take wheels off take sensor out of wheel hub clean spray with wd40 and the hole it goes into,follow wires back to black box
behind plastic wheel arch prize open clean out dirt and mud spray wd 40 put all back about 40min job and at least 50p worth of spray jobs a good un :thumbsup:

Well just back from the stealers, it appears both pressure sensors for the DSC have failed @ £87.02 + vat each and £105 to fit them, they appear to be the sensors located on the Master Cylinder.
Still get a massive 10% off the parts.
 
Oh those stealers, why cant they get there hands dirty,expect it's in :rofl: :driving: cash thet get the computer keys dirty.!!!!!

I find it perplexing that both pressure sensors have failed simultaneously. Not that there's any way to (or sense in) arguing it. Those prices really aren't too bad though - the job isn't quite as simple as you would expect (the master cylinder has to be partially drained and stuff).

Don't know if they could tell whether it's both or just one, but for the difference in time and cost to change both at the same time as opposed to changing one then finding that doesn't cure and having to change the second I'll take the hit.

I tried that, didn't work hence why I ended up at the stealers. Turns out that is the sensors on the master cylinder not on the wheels that have failed.
 
Curiously I have now covered about 500 miles since the stealer diagnosis and though the lights were on when I left there I have since replaced the front pads after finding the EBC Green stuff rubbish had fallen apart and the lights have yet to reappear.
Starting to think about cancelling taking it back to have the sensors fitted.
