DSC Fault Light

The fault (telltale) light for the DSC has come on a few times, it tends to randomly dissapear for a couple of days then returns again. Has anybody had this problem before? Im gonna go and get it checked out at some point but just wondered if anybody had any experience with this problem. By the way I havnt been working on the car in any way so I havnt upset anything in that sense. Cheers in advance.

I was getting this on and off and had it diagnosed during a service. 2 faulty DSC sensors part no 34 52 1 164 458 @100 euro each plus fitting. No problems since.

This sounds a little like my problem I had a month or so back. Turned out to be the brake pressure sensor. Cost about £200 all in to get fixed.

It's most likely the ABS sensors on one of the wheels, or worst case the ABS Control Module, the sensors are about £35 each but are different front and rear and without a diagnostic module, there's little to help you determine which is at fault.

Had this prob when touring scotland in march kept comeing and going :headbang: so took all wheels off cleaned sensors cleaned out behind wheel arches where plugs go into plastic box sprayed all contacts with a lot off WD40 and let soak in,fingers crossed not seen DSC light for 5 months.at the most 2hours work and about half tin of WD40 cheeper then stealers telling you allsorts of things,to me it either works or it does not cant keep comeing and going,so did not belive DSC was shot. Hope it works for you.

I would get it checked soon mate. Happened in my 3 series. Sometimes the abs kicked in mid corner and once the whole DSC system failed. Was a dodgy sensor on the left front.

Better safe than sorry

I had this after a few days of having the car, turned out to that DSC unit had failed (I had the ABS light lit as well). I'd get it sorted ASAP.

Was replaced under warranty.

Thanks for the replies, TINO thanks for the feedback, think I will have a go myself as I dont fancy a trip to the stealers for something so trivial and it seems to make sense that the sensors just need a clean up, its worth a shot anyway before I get robbed. Where are the sensors located exactly? On the back of the hub?

It's funny. I got my Z4 a couple of weeks ago and off the bat I got the DSC warning light. Then I remembered reading how to "reset" it.

(from memory, could be wrong, do a search)

While parked and car idling, turn the wheel all the way left, all the way right, back to the middle. Turn it off, wait a bit, turn it on again and Bob's your uncle.

I did that (or something very similar) and the DSC warning that had popped up twice in like a week has been gone now for the last 2 including a trip to Berlin (1300km round trip plus my daily 80km round trip drive).

Might be worth a shot before splashing out money.
