DSC.... Am I missing something

It looks like I should have more then 2 setting on me m. DSC, DTC and off.

At the moment if I hold the DSC button nothing happens other than what happens if I press it once?

Thoughts?
 
The button in non-Ms says DTC on it - which is a setting for low traction conditions like snow or icy/wet roads. It allows a little more slip in the rear wheel(s) before the system cuts power. Also good for hooning... I believe the M LSD negates the need for it, hence why the button just says DSC Off. The only button I have not pressed in mine, and I probably won't ever as the car scares me enough already without me actually giving it permission to kill me :oops:

That said, I think many switch it of on a track.
 
Highly recommend you purchase this months 'BMW Car' magazine as there is a great feature on the DSC/DTC feature and what it all means :)
 
Switch it off now and experience the joy of the m diff, which in my mind is almost a type of dsc on its own. Dsc on the m massively intervenes when it doesnt need to or you dont want it to. I will leave it on if the roads are greasy but otherwise i switch it off. The m diff is extremely capable in stoppin wheelspin snd getting the power down, so well in fact that sometimes i still cant quite believe that the dsc is fully switched off. Try it off , it wont kill you but you will love the m even more, i promise. You would have to be doing domething seriously silly or run out of talent for it to step out of line badly. :driving:
 
I mostly had it switched off in both my Z4M and M3 purely because I didn't like how much it holds the power back if you are having fun and as has been said you can enjoy the benefits of the M-Diff far more, if its throwing it down with rain and lousy weather then it is always nice to have the safety net of the traction control though just in case you are a little too silly and get it wrong.
 
some of the euro guys have successfully coded the stage 1-2 option called M-Trak mode.... this was offered for the CSL/CS and our car are able to be coded for this, from factory however its on and off!
 
Hmmmm. I had promised myself not to press that button, having z8cookie's thread in the back of my mind. But my Button Pressing chromosome is now itching....

Is this a halfway house? just increasing the Delta thresholds? or is it a bit more involved than that?

it was designed to be able to drive flat out with the dsc engaged and it not hinder but help and save you.... google m-track mode.
