DSC / ABS lights on INPA code help - M specific?

Hi Chaps,
Both these lights come on after a few miles now on m M. I'm getting the following from INPA, but am having trouble decoding them.

Variant: LWS5_1B 1 Error in error memory Error registration 1 : 0x0009: keine ASC2-Botschaft <<<<!!! Error accurances: 0
sporadischer Fehler Error code: 09 00 81

Can anyone help? There are a few old errors too, I'll clear them and get a fresh reading.
Cheers.

Hmm, so I reset all of the errors in INPA and took the car for a spin. After a few miles, the ABS / DSC lights came on with a beep.

Got home, can't see any errors in INPA in the Error or info reports. Puzzled.

Hi abar21.
Those INPA codes don't make any sense.
This may be the time to get it scanned by an alternative machine.
Where are you in the UK?
Andy.

Hi Andy,
I'm either in Milton Keynes or East London. Not close to you I'm afraid.

Yeah, I can paste the dumps in if that helps, but I'm not getting anything useful out of INPA. I used to have DIS running, although it was a ball ache. Might have to try it again.

I have a feeling because it's an M model with the MSS70 and different DSC, INPA won't read the DSC errors properly.

Chaps,
I put this on the Z4 E85 problems page, but it could be M Specific. Appreciate someone could help, cheers.

Don't know about codes
But do handbrake dsc and the abs
Maybe a wheel sensor or abs module?

Yeah, or one of the pressure sensors, could even be a steering sensor or the ABS unit.

I need some help with the error codes to tell.

Sure some of the guys will help buddy
Just a Saturday night hahah
Happened on my exs
I lifted off all wheels and cleaned the sensors
But was abs unit bloody stupid the ways left to face all bar rain

Abs pump failed.

Common problem. You might find it is intermittent fir a while. New pump is expensive. Ecu testing will rebuild yours for £200ish

Thanks, I'll give INPA as an E46 a go.

Yeah, I was thinking if it is the pump, to send it to Ecu testing. Need to establish what it is first though.

Try Inpa again but this time as an E46 and see if you get anywhere

No luck with the E46 selection. Although I'm getting some data from INPA, I'm thinking my modded ODB2 lead (VAG-COM with pins 7/8 soldered), might be causing an issue? All the live data works and most of the functions though.

Cheers.

K+DCAN cable ordered. I'll wait and give it ago maybe with DIS, hopefully it will cover the M models.

INPA (not "old INPA", in case you have one of the all-in-one CDs) worked for me, with cable in K mode. No need to select other models... should work just fine on the M.

Hope it's not the dreaded "pumpenmotor defekt", but at least if you crack the INPA issues you can get an ECU T refurb and do the factory re-bleed yourself.

Thanks. Yeah, if I can get the error code and it is the pump, I'll do it myself. I'm using INPA version 5.0.6 from a VirtualBox installation, if that helps. I'm also based in the big smoke., East London, where abouts are you? Do you still have the software installed?

Thanks ,

Alan.

Hi Alan,

I'm in NW but afraid I don't have the software installed - was using an old window laptop I gave back to my dad after his broke.

Replacing the pump isn't too bad a job. Main thing I found was just to neatly label the brake lines and unclip them from any fixtures in the engine bay so you a bit more wiggle room. They are quite finely threaded and access to the pump is horrible, so it's quite difficult to line them up squarely when you reinstall.

Just to update this, I ended up using a K+DCAN cable with pins 7/8 connected, plus ISTA+ to get the Error codes. And yes, it's the pump motor, so I'll whip it out and send it to ECU testing.

FWIW INPA finally read the DSC60 unit, but produced no codes!

To close this thread, I sent the pump to ECU Testing who returned it a couple of days later. Apparently they replaced a couple of the brushes , cleaned up and it tested fine.

Not the easiest of jobs with limited access and brake fluid to deal with, but all done and working well.

Well done. Definitely not straightforward (and brake fluid is grim!).
