Drunk/ Drug driver

Out in my wifes car at the weekend, the three of us heading to some toddler class at 08:30 in the morning.... yes on a Saturday. When a drunk/drugged up car failed to notice a big roundabout and ploughed right into us. :headbang:

Not bad enough that they crashed passenger (and kid) side into us (no injuries thankfully), one of the passengers legged it, then the car with the remaining three people in, drove off. There ensued what could only be classed as a police camera action meets jeremy kyle pursuit, me keeping a safe distance to not startle and potentially cause another accident as she was all over the place. Boxed her in with a classic move :driving: and grabbed the key out of the ignition and awaited the authorities.

V pleased to hear she's been charged, and amazingly insured. Clear no fault claim thankfully and insurer so far being ace. Only worry now with it being a 09 Fiesta is that it'll just be written off. Safe to drive and bumper/ lights replacement and a bit of panel work needed only (and alignment I reckon) but mate in trade reckons it'll be close to the wire.

Some people are just f***ing idiots, no regard for others, no remorse (quite the opposite with the threats etc) and now I might need to get another car if written off. Crossing everything that it's repairable as want a Z4MC so much. :|

Ouch, could have been so much worse. On the other hand she will be banned for at least a year, probably more given the fail to stop and she doesn't have to worry about selling her car, cause she won't get any payout. Just have to hope it wasn't someone else's car she had 'borrowed'.

Count yourself very lucky and good luck with the insurance payout and getting everything sorted.

Police, camera, action all right....good move following and stopping the offender but I'm sure that was a tough spur of the moment decision with family in the car.
Really hope you get a good outcome to this,PITA being financially worse off through no fault of your own....you'll be inconvenienced as it is with possible car repairs.

Yeah a tricky one following a car with family in, many instinctive decisions made rather than logical well thought out. Opening their car and taking the key out being case and point, that could have escalated things somewhat!

Still, it's only a car and inconvenience as you've all said. I would be much more upset if it was a Z4 though!

Glad you caught them red handed. I'd have been more annoyed had they got away.

What was she charged with then? Failing to stop and driving whilst intoxicated?

Charged with failing to provide a specimen, she refused to blow to determine how much or if over the limit. Clearly was and won't have helped herself with refusing to provide specimen either.

Couldn't let them get away, another crash was a certainty in my eyes. Plus didnt have chance to take registration down ! :o

For me you did the right thing as long as you didn't put others in danger. Must be bloody annoying for someone to drive off after an accident. I hope they throw the book at her and her insurance leave her stranded.

H.

It's difficult to comprehend the impulse to chase without being in your shoes at that particular time, just glad that you and your family are safe and were not injured, lets hope the other driver gets everything they rightly deserve.

Top marks for quick thinking,it's surprising when you have an accident that you don't react as you normally would, and you could kick yourself afterwards.

Cheers all.

Looks like the repairs won't be too costly, so the car isn't going to be written off by the looks of it. :D

The Z is back on the menu
