Dropped Mrs off, roof down, went for a spin..

Just acted like an excited teenager...

The Mrs is out tonight so said I would drop her off (think she wanted to show off getting out the car in front of her mates), before she went out she said what was I gonna do, said not much, so...

Droppped her at pub, drove off, got round the corner, dropped the roof, heating and seats on. Was in Romford so went up to Gallows Corner, up the A12 to the M25, round the M25 to the A13, up the A13 to Dagenham, then cut through back to Romford. Got PLENTY of funny looks and a couple of people throwing the nescafes at me BUT I had to say I felt like a sily little teenager again. 1st time I have dropped the roof since I Picked her up in mid-december. Used to have an old Golf Convertible 5-6 years ago but this was a different kettle of fish. Only got a 4 pot due to insurance reasons BUT still had plenty of poke in her and engine noise still sounded good to me.

Got to pick her up later but need to drop one of her mates of so have to go in the Hot Magenta 1.2 Fiesta, reality returns....
 
Did the same last week -3 degrees with myself and my 8year old daughter in the car. She loved it, although we got some strange looks it was magic. :roll:
 
lol, how crazy are you...... but i can understand it given that it was your first time :D

lets hope we have a good summer
 
I would have today to but the manual says not to lower the roof when its wet or something and its been raining on and off here constantly. :cry:

I thought the manual did not want you to keep the top down when it was wet (probably for mold reasons). I dont know though.
 
good effort- as for wet folding its for mold reasons so a short run is ok (but it does leave fold marks more visable on the roof)
 
was 8 degrees here yesterday.. but misty.. noway would i dare to lower my roof till the suns shows up!

the reason is because the hold expands when its wet........ once its dry it contracts( imagine the blow dry effect at driving @ 40pmh). so its nice and expanded when your putting it down, fine.. then when its in its folded state i dries, once it dries it contracts/shrinks. When you put the roof back to the closed position the hydralics have to stretch the fabric which can cause it to rip in extreme cases, and it does happen as ive seen it happen before my very eyes.

I'd imagine the lesson from this is that you can drive with it down and wet as long as you put it back up before it dries.

I've had mine down a couple of times when damp when cleaning my car.. but i usually raise it within 10 mines (just to clean the inside)
