Droning noise?

When I'm in 3-6, I hear a whiny noise between 2700-3500. After 3500, the noise is gone. Sounds like its coming from the front. Not sure if its the engine or the exhaust. Anyone else noticed this? My Z4MC has 22k miles.

Vanos noise likely - everyone describes what they're hearing a little differently - you've called it droning and whiny.

Normal in a sense that we all hear it - you've described it differently however; I would call it more of a metallic rattle.

i just wanted to drop in my 2ps worth, i hear absolutly non of the noises you guys are describing, my car is used hard when its out of hibernation, it gets used on the track and high revs reguarly, and i can honestly say ive never heard a noise from the engine other than a creamy, rich engine note.

I rarely notice it either - There's a ton of stuff on the topic on car forums.

The metallic noise is correct. When I drive my car hard, i do not notice it. But when I throttle between 3000k-3500k i do hear it.

I do not notice the sound that you are describing. I will listen more intently when we get it out of winter storage.
