Driving with a medical condition

Anyone have experience of driving with a medical condition?

Any impact on insurance? And if so, what was the condition and how much did it increase the premium?

Your doctor will tell you if you need to notify an insurer. If you don't have to tell them legally (or from the policy docs) then I wouldn't as they'll use the excuse to either up the premium or decline cover at which point you've got to tell other insurers you've had a policy declined.

Whatever, I hope you're ok Adam.

We had to look into this, when my wife was diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia. (one of the reasons our cars are now auto), here is a link to the DVLA list that you might find useful.

In my wife case, she was advised that unless seizures or blackouts are a feature, it shouldn't be an issue.

Epilepsy is an issue - think Woots' other half can't drive because of it. Also sleep apnea. Though I don't know about anything else as those are the only two I know of people suffering from.

Looking for specific examples of conditions that are notifiable to DVLA, and what the associated increase in premium was/is

Cheers

Thanks all, but still wondering/looking for any examples of premium increases associated with notifiable conditions.

Jeez have you seen the list? We must all have at least one on that list.

Just been through this with the other half.

Didn't make any difference to her insurance premium but she's now got to reapply for her licence every 2 or 3 years.

I am on a 3 year restricted DVLA licence and have been for the past 33 years due to being insulin dependent diabetic. Years ago the premiums used to be loaded and almost doubled once you told them you were diabetic, that's not really the case now as far as I am aware. I still shop around to get the best quote like everyone else as prices do vary from one company to another.
